Highlighting Years Of Impact With Data

Introduction

Thank you for taking some time to read about some of my impacts in the field of data science. My goal in life is to impact a billion people's lives positively through my work. My hope is that what I have accomplished so far is just a starting point.

Impact in 2021

1. I had two of my articles published on the top data science publications: KdNuggets and Towards Data Science with a subscriber following of 1 Million+.

2. Slalom: I recently got hired into the data science practice at Slalom. Slalom is a modern consulting firm in over 39 markets that uses technology and a data-driven approach to solve clients’ needs. Their annual revenue is usually between $1 billion - $2 billion.

3. Reimagine North of Main Entrepreneur In Residence: I have been working for the last 3 months (starting in June 2021) as an entrepreneur in residence for Fitchburg State University-NGO called Reimagine North Of Main (ReNom). ReNom is tasked with bolstering economic and community development on Fitchburg’s Main Street.

Accomplishments

  1.  Events for small businesses: This summer, I helped organize events such as a block party to help small businesses connect with local customers. Our events had over 400 people in attendance and the event was a great success.

  2. Data Visualization for City Hal’s Community Development Office: Through my work with Renom, got to work on a data analytics project using Tableau for the City Of Fitchburg to track store vacancies on Main street. This project will be helpful to analyze real estate and business opportunities for the city but also allow investors to have a Birdseye view of available business properties in the area.

4. SeeksCo: I founded SeeksCo, a yelp for small towns and cities to help increase awareness of businesses in our local community. Through market research with my consulting company, DotunData, I was able to uncover that about $30 million dollars are spent out of the town due to a lack of awareness of local businesses. I have been working on SeeksCo since January 2021, and have received numerous support from different stakeholders within our community.

Accomplishments

  1. Ycombinator Accelerator: SeeksCo was recognized as one of the top 10% ideas in the summer batch of Ycombinator applicants in 2021 and we were selected to pitch our idea to an audience of entrepreneurs earlier in the year.

  2. Website and Users: I was able to build and improve the website for SeeksCo in the past 6 months to provide world-class functionality for our users. We have since had a steady increase in user counts from month to month and have a total of over 600 unique users visit our site with many of them being from the Fitchburg area.

  3. Business Subscription: We were able to get paying customers for SeeksCo in the last few weeks to help them increase the awareness of their business. Though we are currently not accepting subscriptions for businesses, we are still adding new businesses to the site.

  4. Entrepreneurial Round Table: I was selected to attend a 4-6 weeks entrepreneur training program provided through the region’s local entrepreneurship incubator: Wachusett Business Incubator. I developed skills in sales and marketing, business planning, and leadership skills.

5. DotunData: Through my work with my personal consulting firm DotunData, I was able to work on impactful projects not just for our local community but one that impacts the world globally. These projects allowed me to build relationships with stakeholders, and make recommendations that were helpful to them.

 Accomplishments

  1. Fitchburg Business Data Analysis: I spent over 100 hours interviewing and surveying small business owners, government officials, multiple important university personnel (such as Fitchburg State University’s President, CFO, CTO, VP of Student Affairs, Director of International Students Office), and students to understand the impact the COVID-19 pandemic had on the community. Through this experience, I was able to analyze data, create visualizations, and present my results to important stakeholders. I am currently taking action on some of the challenges uncovered through my work with SeeksCo. It has been an amazing experience so far.

  2. End Sars Data Analysis: During the endsars protest in Nigeria, I worked on police brutality incident data to highlight the impact that police brutality had on youth. I built endsarsdata.com (currently out of commission) to collect incident reports from individuals who had experienced some form of police brutality and presented the information to important stakeholders and shared it with different groups on social media.

  3. Market Analysis for Chinese Private Equity firm to invest in Nigeria Startup: I provided market analysis and recommendations to a world-class Chinese private equity firm to help them understand the fintech landscape to make investment decisions. I presented the information to leaders within the firm and received numerous positive feedback.

Impact in 2020

  1.  DotunData’s Edutainment Series: During the pandemic year, I spent an ample amount of time creating online education and entertainment materials for people to learn about the field of data science. These materials included videos such as 5 minutes on data where I take trending topics and relate it to a theory in data science, and teaching people different strategies to break into the data fields. My materials reached over 100,000 people online and garnered a lot of followers on social media. I am very proud of this work as it allowed a lot of people to see data science as less intimidating.

  2. International Youth Foundation Global Conference: I led a session at the international youth foundation where I spoke about how data science and AI can be used for social impact. Many people from all over the world attended my session, and I received numerous positive feedback.

  3. Data Science Nigeria: I was invited as a speaker for Data Science Nigeria (a data science organization in Nigeria) to teach an introduction to data science course to a global audience. My session had over 1000 viewers and the uploaded YouTube video is still watched by many today.

 Impact in 2019

  1. Metis Data Science Bootcamp: I drove for 4 days from Boston to Seattle to attend an immersive data science training Bootcamp for 3 months. I developed my data science, and machine learning skills through this process. I got to present my ideas to different business leaders from companies like Amazon, Microsoft, and many more. This experience inspired me to start DotunData to make an impact in the data science field.

  2. Baltimore City’s Data Analysis Center Of Excellence: I presented a data science project on predicting the next recession to an audience of data professionals at the City Of Baltimore’s Mayor's Office, and was discussed current trends in data science as well.

In previous years, I was the First Nigerian Schwarzman Scholar recipient where I studied in Beijing China, worked at ProfMentor (a Nigerian startup), and was a software engineer at Goldman Sachs.
